SBPWA was founded in 1972 when a group of established working women came together seeking mutual support and better career advancement. The first President, Ms Caroline Lam, envisioned an umbrella body to unite Singapore's many women's organisations. We have been a member of the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO) since the early 1970s.

Today, SBPWA is Singapore's leading network for business and professional women — connecting members to peers, mentors, events, and opportunities that span the globe.
